Katrina Neighbors Solidarity Tour
Documentary Screenings
October 24, 6–9 p.m.
Part of the Katrina Neighbors Solidarity Tour, this evening of documentary
screenings will bring together members of the Triangle community to
engage in conversation about the current conditions in New Orleans
and along the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and
Rita. Organized by the People’s Hurricane Relief Fund, this
Southeast tour is designed to bring attention to the continued evictions,
lack of affordable housing, and scarcity of living-wage jobs available
to displaced families.
Kali Akuno, National Outreach Coordinator for the People’s Hurricane
Relief Fund; Elena Everett, program associate at the Institute for
Southern Studies; and Durham-based activist Ray Eurquhart, among others,
will share their stories. Dawn Dreyer, Learning Outreach Director
at the Center for Documentary Studies, will facilitate the evening’s
discussion. Documentary artists from Duke and Durham will be on hand
to discuss their work.
