Certificate in Documentary Studies Program Final Project Presentations
Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) Auditorium


Ten students completing the Certificate in Documentary Studies, offered by CDS in conjunction with Duke Continuing Studies, will present their final projects in photography and video in two sessions, June 1 and 2, both at 7 p.m. The students and their projects at listed below. June 1
Edrie Greer, Clover's Run (video): Exploring the world of dog agility competition in central NC with a young Belgian Tervuren and her owner/handler, Charles Menn.

Shannon Mathes, Jazz at the Know (photography): A photographic study of the Friday evening jazz sessions at the oldest African American-owned bookstore in Durham.

Gyoung-Youl Jeong, I Am Taekwondo (video): A visiting Korean scholar's photographs of a Taekwondo Black Belt from Colombia.

Rachel Goldstein, My Mom in Photographs (photography): A series of photographs of and about Goldstein's mother, exploring her mental illness, manic depression.

Susan Barco, Dancing Home (video): Annie Dwyer and her Carolina Friends School students build a dance around ideas of "home."


June 2
Ann Taylor, McGuirk's Quirks (video): An internationally successful artist, children's book author, and illustrator triumphs over multiple predictions of her failure.

Savannah Scarborough, Sue Coe: On the Killing Floor (video): A work in progress about an internationally recognized artist and activist who bears witness to killing, death, and inequality in factory farms and slaughterhouses.

Peggy Hall, The Tag Collector (video): A look at the filmmaker's family road trips and her father's long-time collection of license tags.

Juan Orrantia, Migrants and Exiles (photography and video): Merging still photography, music, and narratives, this short film looks at the shadows of suburban America.

Kendy Madden, It'sss Gonna Get Me (video): A short film that takes a humorous look at the fear of snakes.
