FAQ’s

What are the jurors of the Daylight/CDS Photo Awards looking for?

We will consider still images made from all photographic processes, both traditional and digital. You should demonstrate the ability to build a strong series of images and a cohesive body of work, particularly for entries for the Project Prize.

Are there any restrictions on who can apply?
No!

Can I submit my photos as prints or CDs in the mail?
We only accept digital (jpeg/jpg) submissions via our online system (http://daylightcds.slideroom.com). For good image quality and fast upload, each image file should be sized at around 1024 x 768 pixels at 72 ppi. Our online system offers very specific instructions for successfully submitting work. The jury will review photos and written materials on screen only.

How many times can I enter?
You can submit as many entries as you wish, however, please note:

If you are applying for both the Project Prize and the Work-in-Process Prize (at the discounted fee, which will be applied when you submit payment), you must submit your work under both “programs” on our online system.

If you are applying multiple times in the same category or “program,” you will need to register each additional time with a different email address. (All of your other contact information, except the email address, can stay the same for each entry.) Multiple entries must be for different bodies of work.

If I have trouble submitting my entry, whom do I contact?
For technical support related to uploading the photos, entry forms, and/or payments, please visit our online system Help Desk (http://slideroom.zendesk.com).

The Fine Print

Daylight/CDS Photo Awards reserve the right to reject entries that are not submitted properly.

Submissions should come directly from artists, not from galleries or representatives.

Staff or faculty of Daylight Magazine or the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University are not eligible to enter the competition.

By entering the Daylight/CDS Photo Awards, you accept these competition rules:

You agree and acknowledge that Daylight/CDS Photo Awards is permitted to receive your registration data. Participants agree that personal data including, but not limited to, name, mailing address, phone number, and email address may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used for the purposes of conducting and administering the Photo competition. In entering, you agree to allow Daylight Magazine and the Center for Documentary Studies to add your email address to their respective mailing lists.

You are the sole owner and author of the photograph. Daylight/CDS Photo Awards recognizes that you retain full ownership of the copyright of each photograph.

All winners, including honorable mentions, understand that the photographs submitted to the Daylight/CDS Photo Awards may be used to promote the competition and agree to supply a high-resolution image suitable for printing in the media upon request. Any photograph used by Daylight/CDS Photo Awards will have a photographer’s credit.
