Materials
Submissions should include, in this order:
• Application form

• Entry fee of $40 made payable to CDS / Honickman First Book
Prize
• Self-addressed, stamped postcard for notification of receipt
of materials
• Forty images submitted digitally on cd, drawn from an ongoing
or recently completed project, which represent a coherent body of
work suitable for publication. At least twenty of these images must
have been made within the last three years (after 2006). Those who
submitted work in the last competition must be sure to include at
least twenty new images in their application.
Images can originate in any format, but must be submitted digitally
on cd. (No e-mail submission of images will be accepted). Images
should be in jpeg format, saved at the highest jpeg setting, and
sized at 72 dpi with the longest side of the image set at 21 inches.
Each jpeg should be titled in this order: photographer's
last name, photographer's first name (abbreviated as needed), and
image number—for example, doe_john_01.jpg. Color images should
be in RGB Color mode. Compact disc and case must be clearly labeled
with the photographer's full name.
• Caption list. Please include where and when picture was
made.
• One-page artist’s statement (provide context for the
forty images, describe larger body of work, including how long project
has been in progress, and how the photographs constitute a potential
book)
• One-page biography or one-page résumé
• Self-addressed, stamped 9 x 12 envelope for return of materials
Before submitting your application, please review your images to
be sure that what you've submitted represents a larger body of work
suitable for publication as a book.
All written material should be typed on white 8 1/2 x 11 paper with
the photographer’s name at the top of each page. Prints, newspaper
clippings, or any other additional material will not be seen by
the panel.
Enclose all materials in a 9 x 12 envelope and send to:
